Customer Service and the Art of Communication

As you may recall from earlier posts, in a former life I worked in the medical field as a caregiver. Prior to that, every job I had since I was 16 years old was in customer service. I was trained that the golden rule of good business is that the customer is always right, meaning that even if they are misguided, good customer service means treating them as if they are right by being courteous and helpful and keeping them as happy as possible. I'm not that old and in the course of my routine business transactions of mundane tasks like acquiring car insurance, I have witnessed and felt I was at the mercy of horrible customer service.
I understand from experience that being treated like just another warm body as a company employee makes a job less than desirable for many, especially when the motivation is just to pay the bills--the reason I needed to work for myself! However, everything in life is ultimately a choice and I believe that we all have the potential to be conscious co-creators of a global community where everyone is supported in fulfilling their unique role doing what they love. This is not a radical utopian pipe dream; it is possible for those who believe it possible and take steps to make it happen. Starting with small decisions and remaining focused on the kind of world we wish to see is exactly how a conscious community is not only possible, but long overdue, in my opinion. Each person has the capability to make a difference by choosing what to support, where to focus their energy and by sharing with others who may not be aware of how to effect change in their own lives.
Ever since I was a child, I have created things; it is my passion and joy! I never want to have a corporation because it would be the death of what I love; mass produced items simply do not have the spirit and energy as something handmade. I enjoy designing and making one of a kind art with my own two hands for unique individuals because the energy of my passion goes into what I create and by sharing, that energy and passion spreads to others. In my mind, when I give things away or someone purchases something that I made, I am sending out a little energy ripple of wishes for peace and joy for the recipient and anyone who notices it and says, "I love that! Where did you get it?"
Holiday shopping season is upon us again; I choose to give handmade!
